Hotel Alpha Bravo

HAB is a 1967 Ka6CR 15 metre wingspan glider.

There are currently 2 people in the syndicate, a one third share is available .

Cheap to run, easy to fly, powerful brakes, very forgiving stall characteristics make this an ideal glider for early cross country pilots or someone wanting a share in a second glider to fly year round. Complete with GPS 3 and EW.

This is an excellent opportunity to buy into a fully refurbished glider based at Midland Gliding Club, one of the UK's best gliding sites, known not only for it's year round flying with plenty of wave and ridge flying in the winter, but also legendary hospitality and piss taking.

Many club members live several hundred miles away, but travel up for weekends.

Potted History

First Registered 28/4/1967 under the German registration D 1596. Originally belonged to a fleet of similarly coloured K6-CR’s at the Flugsports Club, Möve

By 1968 had done 153 hours and 219 launches, an average of 42 minutes per flight.

By 1976 had done 2,996 hours and 2.051 launches, an average of one hour 28 minutes per flight. It was flown almost exclusively by one man, a Herr Schickling.

It was bought in 1980 by a Herr Weber, who flew it until it was imported into Britain in 1991. At this time had done 3,473 hours and 2170 launches, an average of 1 hour 36 minutes per flight.

It now has the BGA number 3778.

The glider had fallen into misuse by 1997, and was not flown for about a year, but a new syndicate was formed in June 1998, since when HAB has flown on every available opportunity. This summer the trailer has been refurbished, the glider has been rewired and we have built new tow out gear. Over the winter it has been recovered and repainted and had a nose hook fitted, so is now in pristine condition. Most recent addition is a new canopy.

Presently it has done 3,646 hours and 2,363 launches, one hour 32 minutes per flight on average.

Refurbishment

During November and December 1999 it has been fully refurbished ready for next year's flying.

Syndicate partner Pat (in the red coat) and John (ex-sydicate) discuss tailplane repairs with Roger. The red patch on the wing covers the original German registration number. After 32 years the original paint is showing it's age.

Roger starting to take the nose cone off, the original steel screws fitted were rusting and needed to be replaced. We also fitted an aerotow hook at the same time. Most of the launches in Germany had been on aerotow from the belly hook, but I think they must have been braver than us.

Nose cone back on and new aerotow hook fitted. The original paintwork was cracked in places and needed a lot of sanding.

Port wing being fitted new control rod bushes and then being recovered with fabric prior to painting

................

Beginning of December 1999, the completed fuselage comes out of the workshop ready to go into the trailer. It then goes into the hangar to check that it all fits together.

All finished. The completed aircraft being weighed. All that remains is to refit the instruments and test fly.
